Together these teams advocate for a cleaner, safer, and more optimistic future for our airline, our employees, and the millions of customers we serve all around the globe.<br><br>Job overview and responsibilities<br><br>The Environmental Sustainability Manager will report into United's Decarbonization team, sitting in the Environmental Affairs organization. This position will support United's long-term sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) strategy, including longer-term net zero SAF transition market engagement. The Manager is responsible for tracking against climate targets, broad SAF policy readiness and compliance, and assessing the broader energy and SAF market. The Manager will also manage engagement with technical industry groups, tracking technical sustainability elements in the SAF market and informing United’s SAF strategy. Support other duties as assigned.<br>• SAF market technical sustainability best practices and standards – Act as Decarbonization Team’s first scan of developing protocols, guidance, and best practices as they relate to technical SAF items, such as lifecycle analysis determinations, book and claim best practices, additionality concepts, and other foundational elements for SAF market growth<br>• Sit on technical working groups as appropriate<br>• Assess long-term energy transition market for SAF growth opportunity – Follow and inform industry and research analyses that assess and make best projections on SAF market growth to inform United’s decarbonization roadmap and SAF levers<br>• SAF policy engagement – Track and develop materials to work alongside United Government Affairs to support the adoption of SAF policy measures that help grow the SAF market<br>• Understand differing policy mechanisms, obligations, and opportunities to incent broader SAF adoption<br>• Professional development and team engagement - Establish individual goals that align with United's climate ambition: net zero carbon emissions by 2050<br>• Develop individual career development and training plans with management<br>• Use technical knowledge and experience to provide thoughtful decision-making and guidance in strategic implementation of United's climate strategy and program<br>• Be solution-oriented and committed to creating and sustaining a culture of continual improvement and innovation<br>• Model integrity, possess self-awareness, and foster an environment of accountability<br><br>Qualifications<br><br>What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):<br>• Bachelor's degree<br>• Environmental Science/Engineering/Policy or similar; or comparable environmental sustainability work experience, with general understanding of climate policy<br>• Minimum 3 years of environmental sustainability experience in renewable fuels, energy transition, aviation sustainability, or fuels policy work<br>• Strong business and financial competence to evaluate strategies and opportunities relevant to our business<br>• Knowledge of energy markets, emerging climate technologies, and the role of clean energies in the transition toward climate goals<br>• Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills<br>• Demonstrates strong interpersonal, management presence, and judgment skills to employ thought leadership across a group of stakeholders<br>• Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint<br>• Ability to travel domestically 25% of the time and internationally 10% of the time<br>• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship<br>• Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification<br>• Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position<br><br>What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):<br>• Master's degree<br>• Environmental Science/Engineering/Policy or similar<br>• 3+ years project management or environmental consulting experience, with experience managing project teams<br>• Experience developing clean energy strategies<br>• Knowledge of energy financial metrics and macro renewable fuels trends<br>• Experience in the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industry or aviation energy supply chain<br>• Experience collaborating among teams and leading projects involving multiple groups and individuals of differing backgrounds and perspectives<br><br>The base pay range for this role is $102,220.00 to $133,194.00.<br><br>The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills.
